SASAR, Inc. News and Feedback
We struggle from day to day week to week trying to bring in the money we need to keep the rescue going... We need help!
Entry for April 20, 2008 Abandoned Cats with Kittens Found in a Ditch

I'm sure many of you saw Stephanie on the news with the tiny kittens and their mothers. Spaying the first female cat could have prevented all of this. For us this is just the beginning of the annual deluge of cats and kittens, and our finances are precarious at best. This is why we ask for a surrender fee of $25 per cat, and one of many reasons pet owners dump their unwanted cats and kittens instead of leaving them at a shelter. $25 only covers the cost of a feline leukemia test. It doesn't cover food, litter, worm medicine, vaccinations or spay/neuter. We still have cats from last year that were never adopted. We spayed and neutered as many as we could so they wouldn't have to spend their lives in cages.

We are still in need of volunteers to help with fund raising to keep the shelter going. We have planned another yardsale at a date to be announced. And we hope to set up boothes at several local festivals and the Wyoming County Fair. We are also planning another bowl-a-thon in the fall with a chinese auction. Money raised from these activities and direct donations comprise a third of our annual budget. One-third comes from adoption fees and surrender fees, and the other third comes from our pockets. This year we don't have that much to spare from our own budgets. We really need your help.

Last but not least, Jack has been adopted and Jade has a meet and greet appointment. This week we have two new dogs in our Petfinder listings. Diesel, a beautiful 6 month old boxer mix and Gus a handsome friendly hound 2-3 years old. Both are openly friendly.
