The Cats Keep Coming |
Earlier this week, this little guy was brought in to Stephanie's Animal Shelter and Rescue, Inc. from the pouring rain. He was found along the side of the road near the pictured remote location where he laid down to die. This little kitten was barely alive and hypothermic when he came to the shelter. A warm bath, a hair dryer and a heating pad warmed him, then a few good meals and a night's rest brought him back from the brink. This is one of the most heinous cases of abandonment we have seen so far. If a kind woman hadn't found him and brought him to the shelter, he would have died, cold and wet, alone on the side of the road. |

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. It is a growing problem throughout our area and the whole country. There are abandoned cats in every neighborhood, and the shelters are all being filled with cats brought in for re-homing. Requests for humane trapping and removal of abandoned and feral cats are steadily increasing. Stephanie's Animal Shelter and Little Paws Cat Control are working together on the problem on a volunteer basis. Costs are escalating. Requests for this service are increasing and no funding is forthcoming. Costs include purchasing the traps, gas to travel repeatedly to cites to check traps and retrieve captured animals, not to mention housing and veterinary services. |

"People ask for our services as though their tax dollars are paying for them. That's not the case. Some give donations, but many do not. It's reached the point where it is costing us money to provide shelter and cat control services." |

Shelter funds are depleted. Cash donations are desperately needed in order to rescue and shelter and care for more cats and dogs. In addition to food, cleaning supplies such as bleach, Mr. Clean blue, laundry soap, fabric softener, contractor weight garbage bags, cat litter, litter boxes, collars, stainless steel bowls, old towels and blankets are needed. |

"We need more people to help us set and monitor traps in various communities. Just four of us can't do it alone," said Little Paws Cat Control. "We need funding for the operation, spay/neuter, and we need homes for the cats. We need help." |
